I was probably one of the last to jump on the “we are on lockdown and can’t go anywhere? Buy the kids ALL the toys!!!!” train. I spoke to a good friend (special thank you to my friend, you know who you are!) and saw that she had all sorts of amazing fun toys at her house. It was like a kid’s paradise! At that point, something clicked and I realized I too, wanted and needed more fun things for our kids to play with. Don’t get me wrong oh we have toys. Lots of them. However, besides a little blow-up pool, we didn’t have any big toys that the kids could play with that physically drained them or challenged them. So I went on a shopping spree and here are the toys I would recommend to anyone!! Just for reference, I have a 4-year-old, 2-year-old, and 7 month old.
These water guns have been one of the most used toys this summer. I was a little reluctant because to me they seem to be on the higher end of what I think water guns should. Don’t ask me how much I think they should cost lol I just think they are a little bit on the high side. They are really great water guns, so great that I bought a second pair so that my husband and I could also participate in water gun fights with our kids.
They are easy to shoot even my two-year-old is able to use without help. They shoot out water really far too, which makes it more fun. The cap that holds the water in is very easy to take off meaning even my two year old can refill the water gun on his own. He is unable to close it, however my four year old is able to without a problem. The only con I would say is that the lid attaches to the gun with a circular piece of plastic (see attached pictures, because I’m not sure how to describe it.) anyway the way it is attached allows it to come off easily if pulled off. My two year old managed to get it off, so one of our water guns is now capless. For the life of me, I can not find the lid–who knows where he put it. All in all great water guns.
This toy was so cool and fun we immediately bought an expansion pack that allowed the rollercoaster to be a bit taller and longer. This toy is a toy I wish I had when I was growing up. We put it outside on the grass and the kids are able to ride about 4 feet after the track ends. If is was placed on concrete or hardwood floors I can’t imagine how far the kids would be able to go. It’s easy for the kids to reload the car, so no need for parent intervention on that front. It was easy to put together and is well built, I don’t have any cons. The kids love it!!
I am really happy with our sea saw purchase. It was really easy to put together, which was a bonus. I love how it spins 360 degrees as well as goes up and down. I anticipated my 2-year-old son liking it more, but he is actually nervous and gets off soon after trying it. He will stay on longer if I hold him.. My daughter, who is four loves it and gets disappointed when her brother gets off so soon. I sometimes hold my 7 month old on the sea saw and spin it around and have it go up and down so that my daughter can have a chance to enjoy the sea saw too. The baby actually likes it so much that he cries when I take him off. Even tho my older son isn’t a fan I’m glad I got this one because it can grow with them. I’m sure in time he will learn to love it. This is a great toy if you have two kids close in age. They can play together and it is a toy that will be really entertaining.
This one is an option if you know for sure your kids wouldn’t like a sea-saw or are nervous about a sea-saw or are unable to use a sea-saw for any reason. This one was the other type of sea-saw I was debating on getting, but opted for the one pictured. The only real big con it seems is that it is a real pain to put together, but if you’re fine with that this one will be a great option for your littles.
To my surprise, during this pandemic sandboxes have been harder to find than I ever imagined, but now I understand what a valuable kid toy they really are. My kids can be in the sandbox every day all day and be fully entertained. It is glorious! I got play sand from a local hardware store for less than $4 for a 50lb bag. This sandbox holds about 150lbs. The play sand is great when used wet too! I ordered another sandbox along with this one and I’m convinced….that sandbox is the worse sandbox ever created. This one is great although I wish it was double in size. It has 2 little seats, which my kids use and it’s one solid piece so it would be great for a baby pool too. The lid has held on well during thunderstorms and the sand has stayed dry. Besides hating that my kids are playing in the sand because once they come inside-sand is everywhere! The sandbox has actually been an amazing toy!! Literally it’s been hours upon hours of fun for them.
This splash pad has been so much fun for the kids. I love that you can easily adjust the streams of water that come from out of the splash pad. All you have to do it raise or lower the water from the water hose. They love splashing in the water or using the water to fill up their water guns, or use the water for in the sand. This has kept them busy and cool especially on really hot days.
This is such a simple toy but has been used in all sorts of ways. They slide down it, slide into the splash pad, or have various toys slide/roll down the slide. This has been a toy that has gotten lots of use and in a bunch of different ways. This slide is very easy to put together and is well made.
I love getting toys that will last and grow with my kids. This allows you to get the most bang for your buck. This is one of those toys. It is adjustable so as your kids grow you can raise the hoop. It was very easy to put together and came with three little rubber basketballs. My kids love trying to make baskets and my husband as I enjoy playing with them as well. This is also great for gross motor skills like hand-eye coordination.
Get yourself one or some of these toys….seriously. They have saved the summer since we have kept to ourselves during the pandemic. We are outside all the time and my kids are kept busy with lots of fun activities. These toys allow them to get all their energy out because they are challenged mentally and physically. They sleep better at night and honestly while they are outside there aren’t too many arguments. So many wins!
My husband and I actually decided we are going to put a couple of these toys in the basement for the kids to use in the wintertime. I want them to have some physical outlets when it’s too cold to be outside. We are all excited about that plan. I wish I had gotten all of these toys sooner, but better later than never, right?
Which toy are you putting on your wishlist? Which one do you already have? How do you like it?
