Anyone that knows my family knows that we have a very diverse range of beautiful hair textures. My husband is African American. I am ½ Puerto Rican, ¼ Lebonese and ¼ French, Irish and German. My three children are just one big beautiful mix of culture and ethnicity!!
My hair is extremely thick, wavy/curly and long. My husband’s hair is all natural, thick with tight coily curls. My daughter’s hair has different textures, but is a mix of both my husband’s hair and mine…I would say it leans closer to my husband’s hair.. She has some very straight sections to extremely curly sections. The shrinkage for her is very real. My son’s hair is very fine with tight coils. My other son is still too young to see what his hair texture is going to be like but so far it’s looking curly. Now that you have an idea of the huge range of hair types that are in my family, I would like to recommend some hair products that work amazing on us all. Let’s dive in.
I have been using these hair ties for a long time. They are so good at holding my super thick hair up and keeping it all in place. They have some rubber around the entire band to ensure a secure hold. My daughter and I both use these hair ties. I don’t find that they cause any breakage, however, I don’t pull them out of our hair. I untie them, which I think is important in preventing breakage. I do find that after using them for about two or three months they stretch out and eventually break, so they aren’t indestructible. However, they do a great job and I continue to buy them.
Let me start by saying I have used many different brushes, including the all popular Denman. This brush is seriously amazing!! It works wonders on all of our hair types. It can be used on wet or dry hair, but I prefer to use it on wet hair. It’s actually a weird-looking brush, but it is designed in such a way that it doesn’t tear your hair apart when trying to get tangles out. I am able to brush through our hair with minimal pain, which is a huge win especially with kids who have curly hair. They can easily get tangly hair and it’s so nice to be able to brush their hair with no tears. It’s also really great at defining the curls. I love using this brush with a leave-in conditioner. The one I use is mentioned below is amazing.
I’m always on the lookout for products that are free from toxic chemicals. The Renpure line is free of sulfates, parabens, dyes, gluten, phthalates, and propylene glycol. This shampoo and this conditioner are great on all of our hair textures. It can be a little bit drying for my daughter and my husband’s hair, however, they are always using extra products to moisturize their hair after they get out of the shower regardless of the shampoo and conditioner they use. Their hair textures constantly crave moisture. The shampoo and conditioner do a great job of removing build-up without being overly drying for any of us, which is a win. I also love that both of these products are always very affordable.
This is one of my favorite products and I highly recommend this leave-in conditioner. Like said above since it’s a Renpure product so it’s free of sulfates, parabens, dyes, gluten, phthalates, and propylene glycol. With all of us having curly/wavy hair it is amazing at limiting frizz, amazing at helping to get tangles out, moisturizing, and does not dry crunchy at all. Using this leave-in condition and the brush I mentioned above–tangles don’t stand a chance!!! The price point for this product is great and I even have it set on amazon to be delivered every other month automatically!
I’m currently on the look out for a deep conditioner, I will update this post once I find a good one that works well for all of us. I try to find products that work well for all of our hair in order to keep our hair care costs down. We have been using these products for months now and they have out shined products we have used in the past.
Which product are you most interested in trying? Why? Have you tried any of these products? If so, which ones? What do you like most about them?
